NPC Studio (a Chicago indie studio founded in 2019; this is their first game). Co-directors / designers are Claire Belton and Andrew Duff, who previously created Pusheen (the cartoon cat). Inspirations include Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley; visuals are influenced by Sailor Moon. It is described as a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon. Engine: GameMaker.

1.0 does not raise the price (officially confirmed) and continues the EA price. Reference: France €13.79 (10% launch discount €12.41 until 2026-08-13); other regions follow Steam regional pricing.

No — all EA saves fully carry over. Regardless of how far you have progressed, you can experience all of the new 1.0 content.

No — achievements are retroactive. Completed relevant content automatically grants achievements; no new save is required.

Steam Deck Verified implies controller-friendliness; specific Xbox / PS controller button mappings are not listed in the official FAQ — check in-game settings. Default keyboard / mouse: [ ] switches toolbar, Q picks up 1, R rotates, ESC opens the Journal, etc.

1.0 launches with 7 Beta localizations: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish. Official notes more languages may be added later.

1.0 gameplay and content are fully open for all languages, but translated text (especially endgame content) may be missing or incomplete — untranslated parts temporarily display in English. Example: the French version is about 75% complete (univers-simu). Players wanting a complete translation experience can wait for later localization updates.

No — all 12 candidates can be romanced and married in any gender combination (LGBTQA+).

Other romance interests automatically convert to "Best Friends" status and are no longer romantic relationships. In 1.0 you can turn off the related breakup letters and dialogue prompts (in the gameplay settings after the engagement tutorial cutscene).

Optional — when the Mystical Feather cutscene triggers after marriage, the player has full control over whether to have children.

Yes — at the proposal the partner gives a unique item, and you can receive it without marrying. You can cycle through candidates up to the proposal cutscene to collect all 12 items.

No — Fields of Mistria is strictly single-player. Unlike Stardew Valley 1.6 (up to 8-player co-op), the official FAQ mentions no multiplayer plans.

Yes — officially "planning for additional content updates and patches after 1.0".

Player community reports vary widely: 60–400 hours depending on completion goals and perfectionism. Reddit players commonly start around 60–70 hours; deep players reach 270+ hours.

A demo was released for Steam Next Fest on June 5, 2024, covering the first 3 in-game days (farming, fishing, exploring, mining). It was available until June 17, 2024 and is no longer downloadable. Early Access launched on August 5, 2024 and the full 1.0 released on August 5, 2026 — both are refundable on Steam within 2 hours of play, which serves as the closest thing to a trial.

No Switch port has been officially confirmed. NPC Studio stated they are "currently focused on PC 1.0, will evaluate ports in the future" (Siliconera, GamesRadar). The game launched 1.0 on PC (Windows + Steam Deck Verified) on August 5, 2026. Community speculation puts a possible Switch announcement in late 2026 or 2027, but there is no official timeline. The developers have not ruled out PS5 / Xbox either.

No native Mac or Linux version exists. On Linux, the game runs via Steam Play / Proton (Steam Deck uses this by default and is officially Verified). Mac users can try CrossOver or Whisky (Game Porting Toolkit wrappers), but compatibility is unofficial.

Yes — Fields of Mistria has an active modding community on Nexus Mods (1,000+ mods as of September 2026). Categories include Characters (149), Furniture (123), Outfits (59), Decorations (48), Dialogue (34), and Miscellaneous (434). Mods are installed via MOMI (Mods of Mistria Installer), the de-facto standard installer. ⚠️ The v0.16.2 engine change on 2026-07-07 broke all pre-July 2026 mods — only use mods updated after that date. Most Nexus Mods are safe, but always back up your save before installing (%LocalAppData%\FieldsOfMistria\saves). The biggest trap is cosmetic mods: uninstalling a mod that adds new outfits or hairstyles mid-save leaves your save pointing at deleted items and corrupts it. Mods that alter game data may also conflict with future game updates, especially after major patches. Yes — FoM is single-player with no anti-cheat, so Steam will not ban you. Trainer platforms (WeMod, PLITCH, Cheat Happens) and Cheat Engine tables exist, and NPC Studio even released the official save editor vaultc for legit save editing. ⚠️ However, the v0.16.2 engine change (July 2026) broke most pre-1.0 cheats, and random GitHub "Loader.rar" repos are almost certainly malware. The official roadmap (fieldsofmistria.com) states: "1.0 is only the beginning — we aim to release post 1.0 updates with additional content and surprises." NPC Studio has already shipped v1.0.2, v1.0.3, and v1.0.4 patch notes with bug fixes and balance changes. Specific post-1.0 content has not been detailed publicly, but the roadmap hints at "additional skill perks, customizations, furniture, cosmetics, and mount skins" as ongoing areas. The game is built to be completable at 1.0 as originally envisioned; future updates are additive.

During Early Access, major content updates came roughly every 2–3 months (v0.12 → v0.14 → v0.15 → v0.16). Since 1.0 (August 2026), hotfix patches have shipped every 1–2 weeks. The cadence is expected to slow down now that the main storyline is complete, with larger content updates arriving less frequently.
